Painting Process

Here are photos from this weekends painting.
Friday when I got home from work is when the moving started. Ava & I started moving Emily's stuff out, my stuff into my new room, Ava's stuff into her new room & Sharon stuff into her new room! Quite exausting. Sharon & I primed the bedroom Friday night & we finished around midnight. Saturday morning & afternoon I was busy outside the house, so by early evening I was painting. I painted the 3 light blue/purple walls first @ finished probably around 10. Then after some resting & a 7-11 run, I painted the dark blue wall & finish painting around 1am, & finished cleaning up at 1:30am. I was pooped so I crashed on the sofa!!

Before Photo - This is Emily's & Sharon's room before the painting craziness!

This is me, priming away! I really dislike priming!

Here is Sharon! She was such a great helper! :)

Don't forget Ava, but don't let this photo fool you, she didn't actually paint anything!

Here is the final results. More photos to come soon!

when its all over?

I feel that the purpose of this blog was to track the progress of my room decoration, & I feel that when it will be done, what would I blog about? I'm definatly not very interesting. I guess I have a bit of time to figure that out though!

Mirror

I really like this mirror, I think I'll put a pair on the inside of my closet doors. It'll help with the outfit selection in the morning or before a date!

The Art

I have lots of different ideas for hanging my art. I basically want a wall of art. I'll have to play with the frames to get it to look right, but here are my thoughts behind that... a jumble of art on the wall. Hopefully my handmade painting art & found art will play nicely together.

Everybody loves....... Accessories!!!

I think accessorizing a space is my favorite thing to do! Especially in a bedroom where you can show off the little things you like. Its like an extension of your personality and boy do I have personality!!

I love this gold vase from Jonathan Alder!

This crown is really fun, because I'm such a princess!

And I'm really into driftwood - it stays with my shabby chic/ beach theme plus the sea horse & blow fish are so cute!

Don't forget the birds!

Can't forget the big diamonds!

Drapery Rods/ Hardware

Drapery can't be complete without a drapery rod/ hardware for it to be on. Here are some ideas that I found at Walmart.com (again, design on a budget) I don't have a final decision made for the rod yet, I'm thinking once I move into the room, I will get a better feel for what I want.

I like this one because of the decorative finial that it has & the finish. I think it will go nicely with my art & nightstand.

This one really just has the finish that I would consider, but I'm not in love with the finial.

This one is plain & simple, which with all the decorative elements that I'm putting in the room, might be nice.

Drapery Ideas

These are the ideas I have for my drapery. A fun print on linen would be ideal, & I'll probably line the fabric as well for room darkening qualities. These are all pre-fab panels that you can buy @ anthropologie & ikea, but for my price conscience budget, I'll have to buy something for a fabric store & sew them up myself. The bottom panels are my favorite, I think that pattern that creeps up the panel will look good behind my bed frame.

Nightstand Update #2

Tomorrow night I will be taking my nightstand to a very good friend who will be helping me put a new top on. So if all goes fast, hopefully by this weekend I can finish painting the gold layer & begin testing my white-washing abilities! Good this I have a month an a half before I move into my new room, but atleast everything will be ready & perfect when I do!

New Furniture

Because I'm on a budget, there will be quite a bit of items that I will be buying from Ikea! I think you'll notice a 'white' theme as you scroll down, all my color in the room with be from art, rugs, bedding & drapery!

First things first, I need lots of book/ movie storage - I found this great corner bookcase! This is a great item because of the seperate pieces that make it up & can be moved around! Bonus- noise reducer for the hallway & living room! I can be left in peace in my room!

Here is the bedframe that I fell in love with from Ikea. Very girly & whimsical, perfect for my shabby-chic/ beachy room!

Last but not least a new dresser. I have been in need of a new dresser with larger storage capibilities, & this one seems to have it all. But I'm thinking about painting the fronts of the drawers a darker blue hue, to match the color i paint on my accent wall. I'll also be changing out the hardware on the drawers so it has more character. I'm thinking some cool glass hardware from anthropologie...

Art Inspiration Ideas

A good friend gave me a bunch of old wooden art frames. (I'll post a photo asap) My idea is to refinish the frames, some white-washed, some gold, some silver, & some plain white & create fun painted art to go with them! Here is my color-palette & ideas for the art.

Additional ideas for the art!

Nightstand Project #1

This is the "before" nightstand. I bought it last week near work for $45.00 Can't wait to be done refinishing it. I heart this nightstand. This is just the beginning of fun projects for my new bedroom!

Welcome!

This will be a place for me to let out all of my creativity! Like last night when Britney came home & I was sanding away at my new nightstand & she said "wow, you're so creative!"

Currently, I'm waiting for 3 of my roommates to move out so I can (FINALLY!!) have my own room! I have the layout ready, the furniture that I'm going to buy selected, paint colors selected, & I've started refinishing an old chic nightstand! I'm ready!

Also, I've been inspired by all my friends that are sewing/ making/ crafting cute projects & selling them online (Jenni Romero, Skylar Saunders, etc!!) but with a twist & making it more for decoration on a budget & crafting great buys! I don't know if it'll work, but it's worth a shot!
